6-Week (Level 1) Beginner Wheel Throwing on Sunday Mornings (Course 4: July - August)
Our 6-week beginner pottery course at Studio 221 runs throughout the year 2026, offering hands-on sessions on
multiple days and times to fit your schedule.
Course Details:
- Duration: 6 weeks total (5 consecutive weeks + 1 week break + final week)
- 2.5 hours per session
- Cost: £260 per course
- Class Size: Limited to 8 participants
- Clay Allowance: 1 bag (12kg) per person - 4 to 6 balls of clay available in each class

Pottery Course Outline
Week 1 – Introduction & Centering
This first pottery workshop will involve some intensive teaching. You will be guided, through demonstrations,
on how to prepare your clay, how to throw a pot on the wheel, and how to centre, open and pull up the walls of
your pot. There will also be plenty of practice time.
Week 2 – Cylinder Throwing
During the second week, you would be practicing your centering skills, you will then be shown how to produce
a basic cylinder on the wheel. This shape will prepare you for making all kinds of pot types.
Week 3 – Trimming & Turning
In this class, you will turn (trim) your pots on the wheel, using a variety of tools. This is when you begin to tidy
them up.
Week 4 – Independent Projects
By this week you get to work on your own independent projects. Working on what you've learnt to produce a
variety of vessels and refine your skills.
Week 5 – Final Making & Refinement
The 5th week will be the last time you'll get to make. You'll be trimming, adding handles and refining all of your
pots before the final week.
ONE WEEK BREAK
A week off to allow your pieces to dry properly and prepare for glazing.
Week 6 – Glazing (Final Class)
The final week will introduce you to glazing as you finish up all your pots with a beautiful glaze. These will
then be fired for a second time ready for you to pick up in two weeks!

Important Information:
Collection: Your work will be ready for collection two weeks after the last class and we will hold your work for
a further month. Unfortunately, due to limited storage space, we cannot keep your work beyond this time.
